New Leadership for the Rockport Legion Band

Press release sent Thursday, January 24, 2013.

It’s with regret and profound gratitude for his service that the Rockport Legion Band announces the retirement of Steve Thomas.  Steve and his wife, Jane are returning to California this spring.  Steve played in the Band from 1995 to 2000.  He became Co-Director (with Jason Howard) when Bob Puff retired in 2007.  Steve has conducted half our concerts and rehearsals.  He also ably took on the announcements at concerts, formerly done by Doc Mann, started and maintained the Band’s website https://rockportlegionband.wordpress.com/ , organized and produced our two CD’s, and composed “The Old 98 March” in memory of Bob Puff.  Steve has been willing to do everything for the Band.  And he has done it well.  He is a good musician with high standards.  He has helped make us a better Band.  We wish health and happiness for Steve and Jane.

And we are very pleased that Jim Davison has agreed to serve as our new Co-Director.  Jim has taught music in the Rockport schools, both elementary and high school, since 1974.  He retired as Director of Music at the end of the 2011/2012 school year.  He conducted his first rehearsal last week.  We are so fortunate that Jim is willing to lead us and are looking forward to playing under his baton.
